Amazon.com Review
Join CJ the frog and his friends in this second-grade-level math workbook with an underwater theme. CJ, Edison the firefly, and the other characters are featured in the bestselling JumpStart software program for children. In this 32-page workbook, children can practice basic second-grade addition and subtraction skills with worksheets incorporating fish, shells, pearls, seaweed, and all sorts of sea creatures. Place value, regrouping, borrowing, and translating words into numbers are also covered. More advanced addition and subtraction worksheets include equations with three digits. Parents can read a tip sheet, extra "CJ's Clues" that explain the math operations, and a complete answer key. Kids will enjoy the reward stickers and the completion certificate to cut out and color. My daughter (1st grader) absolutely loves this book. She loves math and the book makes math fun. The pages are colorful and there are a variety of math exercises. There are stickers included in the book and she always asks me to put stickers on the pages that she finds challenging.

4 out of 5 stars nice basic math book   September 21, 2004

This book presents grade 2 math step by step from simple first grade topics. Most drills have colorful cartoons to attract kids. Stickers are given for rewarding hard work. Most sheets practice adding and subtracting facts. The basics are covered pretty solid, but a bit easy to serious math learners.

If your child has more interest, you should find additional math programs. A Houston community web site Beestar.org provides free math exercises every week with interesting real-life math problems. I signed up my son last semester and found it very useful. My son likes it, too. In the past he only played games on the Internet. Now he learns math online. I love it.

3 out of 5 stars Jump Start 1st grade math work book   February 24, 2005
Lin Alexander (United States of America)
Cute book, but seemed geared pretty low for 1st grade, not very challenging at all, I'm sort of disappointed. Might be good for the very beginning of 1st grade, by be 2nd semester kids ought to be way past this.

1 out of 5 stars Real-Life Math from Scholastic   September 10, 2007
Carol Watson (Del Mar, CA USA)
I was disappointed to find many errors in this book. In examples of various calculation processes, especially long division and multiplication, the numbers were misaligned and would be very confusing for a person trying to learn by following the examples.
